OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF WORLD WAR I - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE

The official history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was composed and published during the early 1930s. It is not included on this website, which serves as a basis for my compilation of Germany, French and British official histories.

The official history has been digitalized by the State Library of Upper Austria. In total, there are 15 volumes.

There exists also an English translation that was prepared by a historian named Stan Hanna. This is the first and the only almost full translation in English. Fortunately, it is accessible to all. The website that I link below contains all maps that accompany this work.

OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF WORLD WAR I - GERMANY - PART 3

This is the third part of the official histories of World War 1 of Germany. Unlike part 1, this series, entitled "Der große Krieg in Einzeldarstellungen" (The great war in single representations) are not listed on The Great War 1914-1918. This is the major compilation of all volumes of this series. This series is noticeable for a wealth of high quality maps. It was compiled by members of the German General Staff and was published much earlier than the other two series.

For example:

Judging from the number of volumes, one sees that there are large gaps between published volumes. This indicates that the intention of the compilers is to release a larger number of works, but later was abandoned. As such, the whole series could be viewed as incomplete. There are 14 volumes in total.

The second characteristic of this series is the concentration on the Eastern Front, see vol.19, 20, 21, 24, 27/28, 33, 39. Germany achieved startling success in the East, so one can see why they focuses on the Eastern Front. This forms a valuable source of information for the much neglected front of the World War I.

Der große Krieg in Einzeldarstellungen unter Benutßung amlicher Quellen herausgegeben; im auftrage des Großen Generalstabes (The Great War in single representations, utilizing official sources, on behalf of the great General Staff)

Published by Gerhard Stalling between the years 1918 and 1919 the volumes are as follows:

OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF WORLD WAR I - GERMANY - PART 2

This is the second part of the official histories of World War 1 of Germany. Unlike part 1, this series, entitled "Schlachten des Weltkrieges" (Battles of the Great War) are not listed on The Great War 1914-1918. This is the major compilation of all volumes of this series. Unlike the "Der Weltkrieg 1914 bis 1918", each volume of "Schlachten des Weltkriegs" is dedicated to a single battle or campaign. The compilers are also those who worked at the Reichsarchiv, hence we can assume that they all have access to the same primary documents that they used when the compiled "Der Weltkrieg 1914 bis 1918".

These books were published between 1926 to 1930.

The total series is comprised of 36 volumes. They have all been digitalized by The digital State Library of Upper Austria.

This list is compiled thanks to this wikisource page
