OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF WORLD WAR I - GERMANY - PART 3

This is the third part of the official histories of World War 1 of Germany. Unlike part 1, this series, entitled "Der große Krieg in Einzeldarstellungen" (The great war in single representations) are not listed on The Great War 1914-1918. This is the major compilation of all volumes of this series. This series is noticeable for a wealth of high quality maps. It was compiled by members of the German General Staff and was published much earlier than the other two series.

For example:

Judging from the number of volumes, one sees that there are large gaps between published volumes. This indicates that the intention of the compilers is to release a larger number of works, but later was abandoned. As such, the whole series could be viewed as incomplete. There are 14 volumes in total.

The second characteristic of this series is the concentration on the Eastern Front, see vol.19, 20, 21, 24, 27/28, 33, 39. Germany achieved startling success in the East, so one can see why they focuses on the Eastern Front. This forms a valuable source of information for the much neglected front of the World War I.
